Zoe, 2020

I was a museum full of art but you had your eyes shut, 2021

My sister, Zoe, became my focus for my project because of her desire to one day become a professional ballet dancer. There is the element of the female gaze, but more importantly a sisterly connection within the context of the work. While we are often described as chalk and cheese, our career choices benefit each other. I am able to photograph her, and she is my model. Growing up both my sister and I were in dance classes so this series is both nostalgic and surreal. This is because she is on her way to becoming everything we both dreamed of. From a very young age, we were put on the same path, but I strayed away, after realising how toxic the dance world can be and that it’s not worth risking my physical and mental health. However, Zoe persevered and will be attending Cambridge’s Performers University.

to the boys that hurt me,

to the women that empowered me,

and the man that helped me discover my potential.
