Fragments, 2022

These images were shot in 2019, when the subjects in these images were all 16/17 years old.
Portraying them now feels to me like a coming of age sequence. Young teenagers growing up, these were all close friends of mine who had a lot going on in their lives from girls becoming women. I decided to slice the images up in certain areas to represent the way that people only know fragments of the things that build up women. The solid colours represent the things women keep hidden, from their insecurities and their troubles. Showing these images in this Women’s History Month exhibition as a female university student reflecting on the challenges of growing up is very empowering. And the hope for this sequence is for everyone who sees it to reflect and be unified, knowing that these internal battles make us stronger.
